We spent the whole day driving the beatiful Cassiar Highway from it’s intersection with the Alaska Highway all the way to Stewart in British Colombia and Hyder in Alaska.

Our first stop for lunch was at Jade City, a small jade store on the side of the road.

We then proceeded towards Stewart noticing that the fall colors were start to show up in the southern part of the highway. We got to Stewart after dusk and crossed the border between Canada and US entering the small village of Hyder.

We spotted a couple of black bears on the road
It was dark when we started driving up the Salmon Glacier Road to find a camping spot for the night. Our goal was to camp at the top of the road with a view of Salmon Glacier.
It is a 23 mile winding, unpaved, gravel road through the Granduc Mining area. The total elevation gain is about 3,200 ft. The road has several hairpin turns, deep drop-offs, lots of mining equipment on the road and areas subjected to rockfalls. Driving it at night was a challenge but we finally reached our camping spot. It was dark, foggy with very poor visibility and we could only see a couple of benches in front of our truck.
