Supplemental Videos

Half the joy of any place is understanding it. We don’t just want to see a mountain, a river, a temple or a market — we want to know the geography that put it there, the geology beneath it, the nature that fills it, and the history and culture of the people who shaped it. So a real part of every trip is the studying we do before, during and after — and the more we learn, the more interesting the next place becomes.

This section gathers the deeper background that the travel videos only touch on. Our curiosity tends to pull us toward three things:

  • Science & Nature — the geography, geology, ecology, wildlife and forces that shape the landscapes we travel through
  • Historical Events — the people, migrations, conflicts and ideas that left their mark on the places we visit
  • Cultural Importance — the traditions, languages, beliefs and ways of life that still give a place its meaning
