Acoma Pueblo is a Native American pueblo situated on a 365-foot mesa, about 60 miles west of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The isolation and location of the Pueblo has sheltered the community for more than 1,200 years as they sought protection from the raids of the neighboring Navajo and Apache peoples
The road to the Pueblo provides an incredible sight with the mesa standing out over the valley

Pueblo people are believed to have descended from the Ancestral Puebloans, Mogollon, and other ancient cultures.
In the 13th century, the Ancestral Puebloans abandoned their canyon homelands due to climate change and social upheaval forming the Pueblo communities in New Mexico and Arizona
The Acoma people say the Sky City Pueblo was established in the 11th century, with brick buildings as early as 1144 on the mesa.
This early founding date makes Acoma Pueblo one of the earliest continuously inhabited communities in the United States
We started our visit by stopping at the Sky City Cultural Center

From there a guide will take you to the top of the mesa. The drive to the top provides amazing views of the rock formations springing from the valley

Once on the top of the mesa you will visit a Franciscan Church and Convent. Unfortunately no pictures or video recordings are allowed inside this building.

The visit last about an hour with our guide taking us around the Pueblo. Currently 6 families live on top of the mesa on a rotational basis.

The views of the valley around the mesa are incredible.

We ended the visit by driving down to the visitor center
