Angel Peak Scenic Area

We spent the night at Angel Peak Scenic area.

We have nice views of Castle Rock and Angel Peak from where we are parked. Weather is overcast but the view is still magnificent.

Next morning great view with a clear weather

Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness

Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness is located in New Mexico, between Chaco Canyon and the De-Na-Zin Wilderness.

The name comes from phonetic transliteration of Navajo term “áshįįh łibá” meaning grey salt.

Together with the nearby areas of Bisti Badlands and De-Na-Zin Wilderness they form an interesting area with multicolored badlands, sandstone hoodoos, petrified wood and dinosaur bones.

Chaco Culture National Historical Monument

Chaco Culture is a United States National Historical Park in the American Southwest hosting a large concentration of pre-Columbian indigenous ruins of pueblos. The park is located in northwestern New Mexico, between Albuquerque and Farmington, in a remote canyon cut by the Chaco Wash. Containing the most sweeping collection of ancient ruins north of Mexico, the park preserves one of the most important cultural and historical areas in the United States

El Malpais National Monument

El Malpais National Monument is a National Monument located in western New Mexico, in the Southwestern United States

The name El Malpais was coined by the first Spanish explorers from the Spanish term Malpaís, meaning badlands, due to the extremely barren and dramatic volcanic field that covers much of the park’s area.

The lava flows, cinder cones, and other volcanic features of El Malpais are part of the Zuni-Bandera volcanic field, the second largest volcanic field in the Basin and Range Province.
