Petroglyph National Monument protects a variety of cultural and natural resources including five volcanic cones, hundreds of archeological sites and an estimated 24,000 petroglyph images carved by Ancestral Pueblo peoples and early Spanish settlers.
The Monument offers five different hiking trails, all are a short driving distance from the information center. Four trails allow for petroglyph viewing. These trails range in length, from one to four miles roundtrip, and in degree of difficulty, from easy to moderately strenuous.
We hiked the Boca Negra Canyon Trail.
