Dalton Highway – Day 2

Next morning we left Artic Circle BLM campground and proceeded towards Coldfoot.

At Coldfoot we visited t the Interagency Visitor Center.

The weather deteriorated in the afternoon as we travelled towards Antigun Pass. The scenery is amazing even with bad weather and we hoped that on our way back we would be lucky and see this under better conditions.

Antigun Pass reaches an elevation of 4,739 feet, crossing the Continental Divide in the Brooks Range. Rivers north of Antigun Pass flow to the Arctic Ocean, while those south flow to the Pacific or Bering Sea. The pass is known for its steep, rough terrain, frequent wildlife sightings, and potential for wintery conditions, even in summer as we witnessed.

At the base of the Antigun Pass you must stop, tune to CB radio channel 19 and check if the road is clear and no heavy trucks are coming in the opposing direction before proceeding.

At the top of the pass you stop again and check if the road is clear on the North Slope of the mountain. We then proceeded to our last camping spot about 2 hours away from Deadhorse.
