Battle Harbour
We left Mary’s Harbour in the morning by boat with the intention of spending two days in Battle Harbour.
Mary’s Harbour
Mary’s Harbour is a tiny village with a population of around 300 on the St. Mary’s River.
We left North West River and drove towards Mary’s Harbour following a scenic costal drive.
It was not a permanent settlement until after a fire at nearby Battle Harbour Fishery in 1930 that forced the relocation of the destroyed hospital and school. With the collapse of the Atlantic northwest cod fishery, Battle Harbour closed and Mary’s Harbour invested in the crab fishery and tourism being the gateway to the National Historic District of Battle Harbour.
We had time to hike to Gin Cove.
End of the Road – North West River
North West River is a oldest town in Labrador. It was stablished in 1743 as a trading post by French Fur Trader Louis Fornel,
Happy Valley – Birch Island and CFB
Next morning we went for a hike along the Churchill river.
Churchill Falls and Happy Valley – Goose Bay
We spent the last two days driving along Trans Labrador Highway.
Labrador City
Labrador City is a town in Labrador witth a population of around 7,500. It was founded in the 60’s also as a mining town.
